Frocktober Friday Frock Up

Yes, it’s Friday again and another chance for me to show off my frocks!

But first, I have some more Ovarian Cancer facts for you:

  • The OCRF strongly supports the development of a highly accurate, non-invasive and inexpensive early detection test that should then form part of every woman’s annual health check-up, like Pap smears and mammograms.
  • Each research grant application the OCRF receives is assessed by an expert Scientific Advisory Committee.
  • Proportionally, more women die from ovarian cancer than breast cancer, because it is usually diagnosed in its advanced stages.
  • 6 out of 10 women will not survive an ovarian cancer diagnosis
  • Once the costs for maintaining our small office are absorbed, funds are distributed as scientific grants to ovarian cancer researchers in hospitals, universities and research institutes.
  • Although tests and scans can show abnormalities, they cannot provide a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The only way to currently confirm a diagnosis is by taking a biopsy during surgery and looking at the cells under a microscope.
  • The causes of ovarian cancer are unknown, but risk factors include age, reproductive history, having endometriosis, and lifestyle and hormonal factors.

And now here is today’s Frock. I chose this because it was my wedding anniversary yesterday and I thought showcasing my wedding dress was perfect.

My husband and I were pretty broke when we got married and there was no way we could afford to buy a wedding dress so instead, I made it. I used some of the crepe panels and some of the original lace from my mother’s wedding dress and added miles and miles of fabric. I had this dream of having a dress with a huge poofy skirt (think The King & I) with a long train. My veil was also from my mother’s wedding. I was a florist at the time, so I also did my own flowers and all the flowers for the bridal party. We seriously bootstrapped our wedding!
