Jamie’s Letter

I know it’s kept you up at night…

Wondering about what Jamie’s father wrote to him in that letter.
Wonder no more!  You might want to reach for the tissues…

To my dear Christophe,
If you are reading this then all hope is not lost.

I have thought a lot over the last few months about what I would say to you if everything came tumbling down around our ears.  I am ashamed to say that I was too afraid to voice my fears or to even warn you what might be headed our way.  In that, I failed not only you, but your mother and sisters too.  I am truly sorry that I didn’t make sure you were all away safely before calamity hit.

I wrote this letter after I knew Father Felipe had managed to get you off Kalopsia safely.  My heart is heavy with grief but my hope is that one day you will return and take your place on the throne that you were born to sit on.

I loved you from the moment your mother told me she was expecting.  The first time I held you in my arms, you stole my breath and my heart.  My son.  My heir.  But most importantly, the manifestation of the love I had for your mother.

I have always been so proud of you, Christophe.  You always showed such a fierce love and loyalty and I knew, as I watched you grow, that you were destined for great things.  The mantle of authority hung on your shoulders from a young age and you carried it well.  I had no doubt that one day you would become a king for the ages and surpass the deeds of even the greats that came before us.  I am only sorry that I will not live to see that triumphant day.

Don’t make the same mistakes that I did.  Be vigilant and watchful.  Never take your position for granted and never forget that as a member of the royal family, you are first and foremost a servant to the people.

Above all else, Christophe, love.  Love with all your heart.  Don’t let the cares of the world harden your heart.  I would give everything up to spend one more day with you and your mother and sisters.  I would trade my life for theirs and for yours if it meant more time with you.

I regret many things in my life, but the one thing I have never regretted is allowing myself to love and I implore you to do the same.  At times the world will try to pull you away from those that hold your heart, but don’t let it.  Time is finite; use it well.  The problems will always be there, but those you love may not be.

And now, my dearest Christophe, son of my heart, let me leave you with these words that my father spoke to me.  Be bold and strong.  Rule with your head and your heart in tandem.  Stride confidently forward but never forget from where you came.  And love.  Always love.

Your father,

Alesandro Ferdinand Christophe Kostopolous
